OGLE Cepheids have Lower Amplitudes in SMC than in LMC

چکیده

We selected cepheids from the OGLE database for the Magellanic Clouds in the period range 10 ≤ P ≤ 10 days. There were 33 objects in the LMC and 35 in the SMC. We find that the median amplitude of cepheids in the LMC is 18% larger than in the SMC, a 4 σ effect. This implies that the period flux amplitude relation is not universal, and cannot be used to measure distances accurately. Subject headings: galaxies: distances and redshifts – galaxies: Magellanic Clouds – stars: cepheids

LMC and SMC Cepheids : combining OGLE with DENIS and 2 MASS infrared data

I cross-correlate the ogle database of Cepheids in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (MCs) with the second incremental release of the 2mass JHK s survey, and the denis IJK s point source catalog towards the MCs. Of the 3384 Cepheids in ogle in both Clouds, 1745 have a counterpart in the 2mass survey within an 1 radius and good-photometry in all three bands. Only 173 have a counterpart in th...

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Cepheid Mass-Luminosity Relations from the Magellanic Clouds

The OGLE data base is used to obtain periods, effective temperatures and luminosities for fundamental and overtone Magellanic Cloud Cepheids. Masses are then computed for these stars with our linear code with turbulent convection assuming an average composition of (X=0.716, Z=0.010) for the LMC and of (X=0.726, Z=0.004) for the SMC. The average M–L relation for the fundamental Cepheids matches ...

The Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment. Cepheids in Star Clusters from the Magellanic Clouds

We present Cepheids located in the close neighborhood of star clusters from the Mag-ellanic Clouds. 204 and 132 such stars were found in the LMC and SMC, respectively. The lists of objects were constructed based on catalogs of Cepheids and star clusters, recently published by the OGLE-II collaboration. Location of selected Cepheids on the sky indicates that many of them are very likely cluster ...

The Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment. Stellar Distance Indicators in the Magellanic Clouds and Constraints on the Magellanic Cloud Distance Scale

BVI photometry of the Magellanic Clouds collected during the OGLE-II microlensing experiment makes it possible to study in detail photometric properties of the ”major” stellar distance indicators in the Magellanic Clouds. In addition to Cepheids, RR Lyr and red clump stars, which photometry was presented in the earlier OGLE papers, we present the so far most accurate determination of brightness...
